As 2012 comes to a close, the Lotus board and staff are giving thanks for the 100+ sponsors who provided crucial support for both Lotus Blossoms and our 19th annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival. We’d like to salute one of our long-time, enthusiastic Festival sponsors here: Dr. Lisa J. Baker, of Baker Family Dentistry, PC. A Spotlight Sponsor of Lotus in the Park, she has supported and attended Lotus for years, and even though she didn’t make it to Lotus #1, she remembers hearing talk of that first Festival 19 years ago.

Dr. Baker knows how to enjoy Lotus fully — dancing in the street; checking the Lotus app on her phone to decide which artists to see, and when; visiting with friends old and new. Some of her favorite Lotus artists over the years include the Tuvan throat-singers Huun-Huur-Tu, Polish band Dikanda, and Funkadesi, “because that band is a blast to dance to!”
Why do her heartstrings sing for Lotus? “I remember square dancing with my dad in a blocked off street in Nashville, Indiana, when I was young,” she recalls. “By supporting Lotus, especially as a Spotlight Sponsor of Lotus in the Park, I’m helping to create experiences that kids will remember for the rest of their lives.”
An IU School of Dentistry graduate, Dr. Baker wants to have a positive effect on the lives of entire families as she helps them to better dental health. She understands that, as in her own practice, Lotus is an experience for the whole family. Thanks to sponsors like Dr. Baker, Lotus in the Park’s free programming reached more than 2,000 people last September, with many parents and kids experiencing music and art from around the world — together.
