Natural Dyes Workshops

July 31, 2015 - August 1, 2015

Natural Dyes Workshops

Dates: July 25 & 26

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (each day; day 2 is a continuation from 1st)
Taught by artist: Gail Hale
Location: Hale Studio, 3122 N. Norwest Woods Circle, Bloomington, IN

Natural Dyes Workshops, presented by the Lotus Education & Arts Foundation,  will be primarily hands-on and experiential, exploring the variety of colors and methodology used with natural dyes. A varied color palette will be explored, while highlighting madder, cochineal and other derivations of natural dyes that create the color red. The workshops are connected to Lotus’s September 2015 festival exhibit – “Seeing Red: World Textiles,” at Ivy Tech John Waldron Art Center’s Miller, Vault, and Treasurer’s Galleries – and will be taught by local Bloomington artist Gail Hale, a member of the exhibit planning committee.

Workshops are designed as a two-day sequence; however, the workshop content also supports single-day participation.  Materials will be provided, and participants are also encouraged to bring any personal materials they wish to dye during the workshop(s). Items should be of light-colored fabric or yarn from non-synthetic sources, such as cotton, silk, wool, etc.

Suggested per-person donation for each workshop is $25, or $50 for both days.

Registration required and capacity is limited to 12 students per day; participants may register below or by calling Loraine at (812) 336-6599.  For adults and children ages 8 and up accompanied by an adult. Registrants with allergies please note that materials such as nuts and other possible allergens will be used during the workshops. Light refreshments will be provided.
