Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino

This six-piece ensemble performs traditional music from the Salento Peninsula in the Puglia region of southern Italy. Led by violinist and percussionist Mauro Durante, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino returns to the Lotus stage with vibrant pizzica (the traditional dance and music of Salento), tender songs of love and longing, and its own modern take on the exuberant traditions of Italian village folk music. The group was an audience favorite of the 2011 Festival, and we’ve been trying to get them back ever since. They open this year’s Lotus at our Thursday Kick-Off Concert, their only Festival set. Don’t miss them.
