Meet Interim Executive Director Denise Lessow

A long-time supporter of the arts and education, local entrepreneur and consultant Denise Lessow has stepped in at Lotus Education and Arts Foundation for the next few months while the Board searches for a permanent Executive Director. Denise is a seasoned administrator, with over 25 years as a non-profit leader, facilitator, evaluator, fundraiser, and university faculty member. She taught Resource Development & Social Entrepreneurship for SPEA last spring, and previously served as the Development and Marketing Director for the Bloomington Area Arts Council. Her recent volunteer activities include advocating for state legislation to provide services for students with dyslexia, co-chairing last year’s United Way Community Campaign, and serving as the immediate past-president of the City’s Commission on Aging.

“My current work as an estate and senior downsizing specialist for Coffey Realty & Auctions allows me the flexibility to support LEAF. Blossoms, Edible Lotus, and the Lotus Festival in fall are so important to our community. Each of these events helps promote cultural awareness and understanding, and the Lotus Festival brings thousands of visitors to Bloomington to enjoy the long weekend.”

A licensed auctioneer and member of both the Indiana and National Auctioneers Associations, Denise enjoys working with her clients during what can otherwise be a stressful time. She appreciates the opportunity to find new owners for unusual or rare objects – auctions are the ultimate way to repurpose and recycle — and to help local non-profits fundraise by providing Benefit Auctions. Please join us in welcoming Denise; she is glad to be part of the team during this busy time for L.E.A.F.
