Lotus Light up the Night

December 21, 2020

On the longest night of the year, we’re hoping to light up downtown Bloomington with a variety of handmade lanterns and luminaria! Since we can’t gather together, we welcome Bloomington residents and business owners to beautify and brighten the city on the night of December 21st.
Simply display a lantern of your choice in your window to be a part of this project. Lotus can also provide kits or lanterns to those in need. Contact lydia@lotusfest.org for more information.
Be sure to share a photo or video of your lanterns, so we all feel connected during this challenging time.
The Lotus Lantern & Luminaria Project engages our community in appreciating the many ways that different cultures celebrate the changing of the seasons through festivals of light. Seasonal holidays that occur when the days get shorter almost always include celebrations of light in the darkness.
In the spirit of the season and community, Lotus strongly encourages participants to make contributions to one of the following local organizations:
Monroe Community Kitchen
monroecommunitykitchen.com
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard
mhcfoodpantry.org/donate
Hoosier Hills Food Bank
hhfoodbank.org/donate/
Beacon (formerly Shalom Community Center), including Crawford Home

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County

This project is made possible by a grant from Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association (BUEA), and our sponsors: Old National Bank, the IU Center for the Study of Global Change, and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
