Be More…Lotus! Congrats to our Award-Winning Volunteers

Congratulations to the “Powerhouse” Lotus volunteers who received a 2018 Be More Award at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Tuesday night!

Duane Busick, Bob Flynn, Gail Hale, Steve Hedges, LuAnne Holladay, William Itter, Jillian Kinzie, Julie Lawson, Geoff McKim, Crystal Ritter, Lynn Schwartzberg, Michael Shermis, Andrew Simmons, and Teri Watkins

For their commitment to making Lotus a beacon for the arts and to building a society that embraces diversity and culturally rich music.

The Be More Awards, presented by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, are our community’s way of honoring and applauding the outstanding, but often unrecognized efforts of community volunteers.  On Tuesday evening in front of a full house at the BCT, honors went to 10 awardees selected from a field of nominees that included 40 individuals and 20 groups who donate thousands of hours to make Bloomington a better place.

Our “Lotus 2010-2017 Powerhouse Volunteers” received the “Be More Creative Award” for the Arts/Culture category, honoring a group of amazing Lotus lovers who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to bringing the world to our neighborhood year after year.

From the event program:

The Lotus Education & Arts Foundation “powerhouse volunteers” – people who have sustained the organization from 2010-2017 – do every activity imaginable.  They work in the office, put up posters, staff crafts tables at the Lotus Blossoms Bazaar, serve food or work in the kitchen at Edible Lotus, create visual arts installations, plan the festival, arrange venues, close streets, work with community partners, and train and orient over 500 volunteers.  These amazing volunteers direct set-up and tear-down of the festival, house-manage venues, work on the volunteer database, and create homemade gifts.  They pack boxes, haul equipment, loan their vehicles, and paint walls.  It is amazing that this group was volunteering in 2010 and every single one is still working to pull of the 2018 festival – Lotus’ 25th!

Thank you to all of these volunteers for their incredible hard work and dedication – you are treasures for Lotus and for our entire community, and we couldn’t do it without you!
