Banda Magda

Banda Magda brings chic, lively style to the notion of “world music,” along with playful gestures and a splash of retro humor. Led by Greek-born Magda Giannikou – a singer, accordionist, and award-winning film scorer – the band moves fluidly from samba to Greek dance rhythms, from vintage French pop to Django-esque jazz manouche. The group includes vibes, jazz guitar, percussion, bass, and other clever instrumentation to back her supple vocals. Says Giannikou, “I concentrate a lot on color and timbre. Notes and chords are shapes and colors, hues and tints. They fly around and then I grab them. . . .”
