Shelley Morningsong & Fabian Fontenelle
Singer-songwriter Shelley Morningsong (Northern Cheyenne) is one of New Mexico’s finest Native performers: her rich alto voice pulls from the soles of her cowboy boots, and her songs cut to the heart. Along with guitar, she plays her own compositions on Native flute. Fabian Fontenelle (Zuni/Omaha), Shelley’s husband and musical partner, adds breathtaking and beautiful traditional Northern Plains dancing, storytelling, and drumming. An original member of the American Indian Dance Theater, he has also recorded early 20th-century songs written by his Zuni grandmother. Shelley and Fabian live in the Zuni Pueblo in northwestern New Mexico, and through their music, stories, and dance, “they hope to bring education, peace, love, and unity” to all.
