Fugu Dugu
Wild East Punk = Balkan brass, klezmer soul, gypsy fire, and punk, and Fugu Dugu is its unapologetic, rebellious voice. Born in Chicago and rooted in the folklore of Moldova and Eastern Europe, this female-led band performs raw, poetic, and riotous music in Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, and English. Front and center: Madame Broshkina, a classically trained violinist whose intricate melodies and searing riffs channel both the elegance of a concert hall and the unbridled energy of a punk mosh pit; and Bucky Wanko, a guitar-slinging poet whose lyrics ring out like the language of protest posters. Fugu Dugu summons something that feels all at once ancient, folkloric, electric, and new.
