Bloomington, IN — The Lotus Education and Arts Foundation (Lotus) is pleased to announce it has been approved by Arts Midwest to receive a $4,000 grant through the GIG Fund. The GIG Fund provides $2,000-$4,000 grants to support the arts throughout the Midwest.

The GIG Fund prioritizes organizations that are led by or engage artists from historically underrepresented or marginalized communities, rural communities, and under-funded areas. This year, 103 Midwestern organizations have received a total of $375,000 through the 2024 GIG Fund. These awards will help organizations present artists and educational events in their community.

Lotus will use the grant money awarded by the GIG Fund to support our 29th annual Lotus Blossoms Educational Outreach Program.  In a typical year, Blossoms invites 4-6 gifted performing artists from across the globe for 3-5 days to cover 4 weeks of programming in South Central Indiana schools, youth service organizations, retirement communities, public performance spaces, and beyond. Our goal is to create opportunities for children, families, groups, and individuals to re-discover music and the arts through a global perspective.

Blossoms encourages deeper understanding of the world’s diverse cultural heritage of music, song, dance, and storytelling, and engages audiences with the people and places from which they spring. Community events with Blossoms Artists invite the public to interact with these performers in intimate settings like concerts, workshops, and lecture-demonstrations. Participants of all ages and abilities are able to see the wider world through the lens of high-quality performing arts experiences.

This year’s Lotus Blossoms Educational Outreach Program will take place from March 18 – April 12, 2024. Please visit lotusfest.org/events for the most updated information about public performances and workshops.

Our Lotus Blossoms World Bazaar Community Day will take place on Saturday, March 23 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Fairview Elementary School. This free event will feature multicultural interactive activities, music, and dance for all ages.
