>> Mabuhay! Philippine Cultural Community (PCC) is a non-profit cultural and educational organization whose mission is to share and engage the community in the Philippine culture through education, partnership, participation, and active involvement. Inspired by the Lotus “Celebrating the Harvest” installation in the Arts Village, a troupe from PCC will demonstrate a series of traditional dances associated with the Philippine festival of Pahiyas, a vibrant harvest celebration dating back to the 16th century.

“Celebrating the Harvest” art installation of Pahiyas Festa House creations, a Filipino cultural tradition. Pahiyas, a harvest celebration, dates back to the 16th century and involves elaborate, food-based decorations. Participants learned more about this colorful tradition using high-pigment markers to color plastic materials from recycled milk jugs, inspired by Pahiyas practices. In addition, regional food inspirations were included to bridge local and global cultural connections. Summer outreach workshops with Boys & Girls Club Camp Rock and Lincoln St. Club, Arts Fair on the Square, Bloomington Community Orchard, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, Girls Inc., Switchyard Art Market, and other community partners. The “Celebrating the Harvest” summer workshop series is sponsored by the Lotus Education & Arts Foundation and the Bloomington Arts Commission.
