Van-Anh Vanessa Vo is an Emmy Award–winning master of the 16-string đan tránh zither and other instruments unique to Vietnamese culture. From the Vietnamese National Music Theatre in Hanoi, to Carnegie Hall in New York City, she has captivated audiences with playing that bridges traditional music and contemporary innovation. “Vo’s energy and enthusiasm for musical creativity seems to … feed off a fundamental sonic curiosity, as well as a desire to reflect on her cultural heritage and share those sounds with new ears. Vo draws a strong connection between American jazz and the improvisations involved in traditional Vietnamese music” (New Music Box).
