September 28 – October 1
Buskirk-Chumley Theater | 114 E. Kirkwood Ave.

Backdrop can be viewed during all ticketed performances at the BCT during Festival weekend.

Lotus is re-revealing a backdrop produced for the 2004 Festival by Soonran Youn along with local textile artists.  This project was the fourth backdrop designed by textile artists specifically for the Lotus World Music & Arts Festival. The backdrop is 22’ H x 36’ W, hand-dyed and knotted. The design was inspired by the idea of visualizing sound and aimed to emulate high fidelity (hi-fi) sound level indicator lights on home stereo systems.

Sooran Youn (artist website here) is from Seoul, South Korea and a 2000 MFA graduate of IU School of Fine Arts.  Youn was the 2002 recipient of The Brandford/Elliott Award for Excellence in Fiber Art.

Backdrops were the first foray into the world of large-scale Lotus visual arts projects. Lotus visual arts programming has grown to providing programming year-round with community workshops, installations, student projects, vital partnerships, and more.
