Admissions is located Kirkwood Ave.
adjacent the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The area is split into two separate tents: Ticket Sales, Wristband
Exchange. |
|
The Ticket Sales Manager oversees Ticket Sales and the Wristband Exchange Manager oversees Wristband Exchange. Both will contact the Sites/Hospitality Coordinator with questions or problems. After checking in at Volunteer Headquarters, please introduce yourself to your area manager when you arrive at your job site. |
|
Ticket Sales: Assist with ticket sales. Make sure customers get the correct color ticket for their purchase and instruct them to exchange their tickets for a wristband. Larger tickets represent advance purchases and the small tickets represent on-site purchases. Check student ID's for IU student tickets. Handle cash and credit card machine (you will be trained). Repack supplies and tidy up at end of shift.
Wristband Exchange: Exchange the correct color ticket for the correct color wristband and place tickets in the correct slot box. Do not give wristbands directly to the customer. Every ticket must have a face attached to it, and the wristband must be placed directly on the wrists of all customers. Once they are snapped closed, scissors are used to cut off the excess tag. Direct would-be ticket purchasers to the ticket tent. Larger tickets represent advance purchases and the small tickets represent on-site purchases. Repack supplies and tidy up at end of shift.

Must be able to handle money and crowds, and be welcoming to festival goers. Gives directions
to the public. |

| ARTIST SHUTTLE |
|
Location TBA. Shares space with Artist Hospitality. |
|
After checking in at Volunteer Headquarters on Kirkwood, Shuttle Drivers report to the Shuttle Captain at the start and end of their shifts. If a problem arises, drivers should first communicate with the Shuttle Captain. If there is a serious problem, the captain will contact the Festival Director or Sites/Hospitality Coordinator. |

Shuttle Driver: Artist Shuttle volunteers serve on an on-call basis during their shift to transport artists to and from lodging and downtown venues for sound checks and performances (you are not responsible for taking them anywhere else). All shifts begin and end at Artist Hospitality. Please wear a watch and be aware of the time for everyone’s benefit. Keep your walkie talkie with you at all times, even when you are away from the van. Stays at Artist Hospitality when not on a run.
Shuttle Captain: Acts as dispatcher, receiving requests on a cell phone or via walkie talkie. Radio drivers with requests if they are making a run. Must stay at Artist Hospitality. Handle requests as sensibly as you know how.

Valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Must be 21 or older to drive rental vehicles. Familiar with Bloomington area, especially downtown. Will be trained on using a walkie-talkie. |

| ARTIST
HOSPITALITY |

Indoor location to be determined. Shares space
with the Artist Shuttle. |
|
The Hospitality Manager will supervise the workflow for this area and will contact the Hospitality/Sites Coordinator with questions or problems. After checking in at Volunteer Headquarters, please introduce yourself to your manager when you arrive at the hospitality area. |
|
Create a welcoming space: Keep food platters and coffee supplies stocked, and coffee pot full. Inform artists of the hours of operations. Thursday, Noon to 11pm; Friday & Saturday, Noon to 12:30am.
Monitor instrument check-in: Using forms and tickets provided, record instruments being checked in and inform the artist of when Artist Hospitality closes.
Inform artists of services available to them.
Last shift of the night includes a half-hour of clean
up: Last shift of the night includes a half hour of clean up, Responsible for handling and storing food and snack items for artists, clean up includes refrigerating perishables and storing other food items for the next day
Work with Shuttle Captains (stationed in the Artist Hospitality
area) to arrange for artist transportation.

Artist Hospitality is designed to provide a "calm from
the storm" for the artists. Not all artists
will want to be social during this time, but will appreciate
a friendly face and attitude. |
|
| ESSENTIAL SERVICES |
|
Check in at Volunteer Headquarters for your assignment location. |
|
Volunteer Festival Coordinator, or other Volunteer Managers. |
|
Vary from shift to shift. Assigned to position during shift such as floater, ice/cooler delivery, and computer set-up, tear down. |
|
Assignments will be matched with volunteer talents and interests. Special requirements depend on nature of task, but generally involves some walking, so wear comfy shoes. |
|
| THIRD STREET PARK / Lotus in the Park |
|
Corner Third & Lincoln, behind Police Station. |
|
Will have a House Manager like every other venue. Check into Volunteer Headquarters first and then report to the Volunteer Check-In table at the park. |
|
Visual Arts: Volunteers work in one of four or five different activity booths, assisting with crafts, face-painting, etc.
Set-up and tear-down: In the morning, assist crews in getting the venue ready for activities and performances at the park; dismantling and cleaning up at the end of the day.
Green Room monitor: Keep artists' green room area clean and orderly.
Stage monitor: Assist stage manager in keeping audience members from accessing stage area; help as needed with transitions between sets.
Parade monitor: Monitor progress of parade from Third Street Park to Festival HQ (route will be on closed streets). Remind parade-goers to stay within parade route and observe road closings; keep an eye out for anyone needing assistance.

Must be able to handle crowds, give directions to the public, and working with children. Wear comfy shoes. |

| MERCHANDISE |
|
Festival Store Tent on Kirkwood Ave. near
the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. |

The Merchandise Manager will oversee your work at the merchandise tent, assign breaks, and answer any questions you may have. After checking in at Volunteer Headquarters, please introduce yourself to this person when you arrive at your site. |
|
Sell artists’ product and festival t-shirts. Handle cash, checks, and credit card machine (you will be trained). Help arrange space as needed, repack merchandise, and tidy up at end of shift. |
|
Must be detail oriented and good with numbers, handling money, and dealing with crowds of people in a pressure situation. |

| SET-UP |

Entire Festival site, including indoor and outdoor venues. Check-in at Volunteer headquarters or if outside of headquarter hours, the location will be communicated to you at a date closer to the Festival. |

The Sites Coordinator and Asst. Sites Coordinator will coordinate your work. You may also receive direction from the Festival Director or Volunteer Coordinator. |
|
Hang signs, put up barricades/tents/tables/chairs in street, set up admissions tent, volunteer headquarters, food tent and information tent. Lay flooring in performance tent, shifting food stocks, and other lifting and moving. |
|
Must be able to handle heavy lifting. Bring work gloves if you have them. Wear good shoes and check the weather report (Sun screen or rain gear? Hot or cold?) before you leave your house! You may want to bring work gloves with you. |

| TEAR-DOWN |

Check in at Volunteer Headquarters for your assignment location. |

Tear-Down crew will be broken into small groups. Your work may be directed by the Sites Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator, Festival Director, Volunteer Coordinator, or other Volunteer Managers. |
|
Move/dismantle tents, chairs, barricades, take down signs, empty trash cans, assist with dismantling some sound equipment at venues. PA load out (heavy). |
|
Must be able to handle heavy lifting. Bring work gloves if you have them. Wear good shoes and check the weather report (rain gear? Hot or cold?) before you leave your house! |

| VENUES |
|
Various indoor and outdoor venues. Check in at Volunteer Headquarters for your location. |
|
Each venue has a House Manager who is in charge of the venue, supervises volunteers, and assigns breaks. The House Manager contacts the Volunteer Coordinator with questions or problems. After checking in at Volunteer Headquarters, please introduce yourself to your manager when you arrive at your site. |
|
Door Monitor: The major role of the Door Monitor is crowd control. During the festival, we ask that audience members leave interior, "sit-down" venues between songs, to minimize disruption for the artists and the audience. Please check with your House Manager regarding entry and exit policies for your venue and artists. Tidy up venue at end of shift.
Wristband Checker: Make sure all patrons entering your venue have a wristband or Lotus Festival credentials (staff, press, etc.). Tidy up venue at end of shift. Outdoor venues may require “perimeter checkers” to ensure access only to wristband holders.

| FOOD SERVICE / BLOOMINGFOODS |
