Lotus Labyrinth
Walk the labyrinth, and contribute to an image of the colors, patterns, and textures of life in Bloomington.
Parade Banners, Inflated Sculptures, and Lotus Art Bikes
Banners with colors and symbols the signify peace and harmony in different cultures around the world; sculptures designed by students in the IU School of Fine Arts Textile Department; Art Bikes donated by community members and rehabilitated by service groups. Art Bike project provided with support from the Bloomington Community Arts Commission and Bikesmiths.
Festival Processions
- Friday, Oct. 3: Street procession led by marching band Mucca Pazza; approx. 8:30pm.
- Saturday, Oct. 4: Meet at Lotus in the Park (in Third Street Park) at 5:45pm for a parade to Festival Headquarters on Kirkwood Ave. led by Portland's March Fourth Marching Band.
- Saturday, Oct. 4: Expanded street procession with March Fourth Marching Band on Kirkwood Ave.
Aboriginal Art Exhibit: Yidumduma Bill Harney
- Sept. 15-Oct. 3: An exhibit of x-ray style paintings by Bill Harney, an Elder and the last Senior Male Aboriginal custodian of the Wardaman people of northwest Australia.
- Location: Athena (116 N. Walnut). Directions ...
- Hours: M-Th 10:30am-7pm; Fr-Sa 10:30am-9pm; Sunday Noon-5pm. Extended hours on festival weekend. More info at 812-339-0734.
- Reception (with live didjeridoo, flute, and percussion): Oct. 3, 5:30pm. Free.
Craft Days / Workshops
- Sept. 13 & Sept. 27, 2-3:30pm: Family Craft Days at the Mathers
Sept. 13: Make flags and banners using colors that signify peace and harmony in different cultures. The flags will be used in Lotus processions; participants will also make their own small flags to take home. Free.
Sept. 27: Create a mask, and help decorate giant masks and puppets for Lotus processions. Free.
